Sumario:The role of the middle level in defining strategies to improve school coexistence in educational establishments has been scarcely explored. This article presents the design and validation of a scale that assesses the management of school coexistence at a middle level. After reviewing the literature on the subject and an evaluation of judges, the scale was applied to 678 Chilean education directors (sostenedores in Chile). An exploratory factorial analysis was conducted to corroborate the factorial structure of the proposed instrument. The results confirm the validity and reliability of the four-factor scale, offering the possibility of describing the management at the middle level and identifying dimensions of improvement. Finally, the relevance of having instruments that are pertinent to the reality of Latin America is discussed.
