This work pursues a twofold aim: first, to lay the groundwork for a possible and future general library geography; and second, to expand the still-limited observations and data currently available—especially those offered in books on political geography (Kulturgeographie)—regarding the libraries existing on Earth. It also seeks to point out to scholars of geography the value and usefulness of including, in their treatments of the field, a brief informative chapter on the major libraries held by each country.
