description The concept of body image is a theoretical construction that refers to the way in which the self-perception of the body produces a mental representation, composed of a perceptual body scheme including emotions, thoughts and associated behaviors. When it is discordant, it could create a barrier to access to health. Objective: to analyze the self-perception of body image, the level of satisfaction with it, and objective data on body structure in medical students. Cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, we studied the sociodemographic data, we performed a questionnaire on the body perception of the students through the Stunkard body silhouettes, weight and height by self-reference, we used a scale with an altimeter and a measuring tape to determine weight, height, BMI, waist circumference. Omron scale for body composition. The study was approved by the Adult CIES. R medic was used and p<0.5 was considered significant 60 medical students were studied, mean age 22.7 (20-32), 65% were women, 48% from the province of Córdoba, mean self-reported weight: 63.9 (40-120), real weight: mean 63.72 (39.10-60.4) pNS; mean self-reported height; 1.67 (1.42-1.90), actual height; 1.66 (1.44-1.87) p NS; BMI according to perceived silhouette: 23.8 (19.8-30.1), BMI according to desired silhouette: 22.4 (18-25.8), p<0.001, real BMI: 22.8 (17.4 to 35.4) compared to the desired p<0.001, when we  compared the BMI with the satisfaction of the body image (SBI) p<0.001, there were no differences between the sexes. When analyzed the BMI categories, 68% appeared normal BMI, 7% with obesity. Men perceive a higher BMI p<0.001, 95% CI 23.8 (23.1-24.5); the real BMI is higher in women p <0.03, 95% CI 22.8 (21.8-23.8). The mean percentage of body fat in women is 32.2 (21.5-47.4) and in men 21.8 (7.1-41.1), skeletal muscle in women 27.1 (21.6- 34.5), men 39.2 (minimum 27.5-47.5%) Visceral fat women average 3.7% (minimum 2 and maximum 8) men average 6.3% (1-16%), requirement of average calories women 1280 (1007.1575) and men 1718 (1440-2260) There are differences between body self-perception and the real indices in this group that could hinder access to the health system in case of eating disorders.
