description Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a harmless imaging technique useful of performing detailed images of the joints. The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are often involved in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Objective: To analyze the TMJ by MRI in patients with RA. An observational, descriptive, prospective cross-sectional study was conducted. Twenty consecutive patients from the Rheumatology Service of Hospital Córdoba were included and diagnosed with RA according to ACR 2010 criteria. They were evaluated jointly by a dentist and a rheumatologist. All patients underwent MRI by the same operator and the same imaging specialist analyzing the images. The study was carried out with an open and closed mouth, in a 1.5T Siemens resonator, using a surface coil. This study is approved by the CIEIS of the adult of the Córdoba Hospital. Being the first percentage in left TMJ and the second in right TMJ, it was evidenced that: 10/0% presented osteophytes, 10/0% subchondral geodes, 60/50% irregularities of the temporal condyle, 70/40% degenerative changes, 70 /60% subchondral changes. 40/40% cortical irregularities, 70/70% mandibular condyle erosions, 10/10% dislocations without reduction, 30/10% decreased joint space, 10/10% disc rupture, 70/50% other disc alterations, 20 /10% muscular alterations and 70/80% joint effusion. Due to the resolution of the MRI, it shows data that are essential for an exact diagnosis and adequate therapeutic planning in a joint as complex as the TMJ and in patients where early diagnosis determines the prognosis.

La resonancia magnética (RNM), es una técnica de diagnóstico por imágenes inocua capaz de realizar imágenes detallada de las articulaciones. Las articulaciones temporomandibulares (ATM), suelen comprometerse en la artritis reumatoide (AR). Objetivo: Analizar mediante RNM las ATM en pacientes con AR. Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, prospectivo de corte transversal. Se incluyeron 20 pacientes consecutivos, del Servicio de Reumatología del Hospital Córdoba, con diagnóstico de AR por criterios ACR 2010. Fueron evaluados conjuntamente por una odontóloga y un/a reumatólogo/a. A todos los pacientes les realizó la RM por un mismo operador y un mismo especialista en imágenes analizando las imágenes. El estudio fue realizado con boca abierta y cerrada, en resonador de 1.5T Siemens, utilizando bobina de superficie. El presente trabajo está aprobado por el CIEIS del adulto del Hospital Córdoba. Siendo el primer porcentaje en ATM izquierdas y el segundo el de ATM derechas se evidenció que: el 10/0% presentó osteofitos, 10/0% geodas subcondrales, 60/50% irregularidades del cóndilo temporal, 70/40% cambios degenerativos, 70/60% cambios subcondrales. 40/40% irregularidades corticales, 70/70% erosiones en el cóndilo mandibular, 10/10% luxaciones sin reducción, 30/10% disminución del espacio articular, 10/10% ruptura discal, 70/50% otras alteraciones discales, 20/10% alteraciones musculares y 70/80% derrame articular. Debido a su resolución la RM muestra datos que resultan imprescindibles para el diagnóstico exacto y la planificación terapéutica adecuada en una articulación tan compleja como la ATM y en pacientes donde el diagnóstico precoz condiciona tanto el pronóstico como es la AR.
