| Sumario: | Background and aims: The present investigation corresponds to a molecular taxonomic analysis of floral samples of plants naturally established in a remote area of the Atacama Desert, Arica-Parinacota Region, Chile. In the first instance, the samples were morphologically attributed to the genus Lathyrus, however, according to current literature, no individuals of this genus have been registered in the region, given this, confusion has been generated in the identification of the collected samples. Therefore, the present research aims to genetically identify the presumably Lathyrus species, using DNA Barcoding.
M&M: In the present study we evaluated these individuals by a phylogenetic analysis to determine their taxonomic identity from ITS (nuclear) sequence and psbA, matK and rpoC1 (plastidic) sequences.
Results: The results demonstrated that the individuals are related to the species Lathyrus odoratus.
Conclusions: The four DNA barcoding loci allowed the samples to be genetically identified as L. odoratus, which is found growing naturally in Chile. |
