Sumario:This article presents some research results related to university outreach activities. It gathers the information provided by more than 800 university professors and teaching assistants in an opinion survey. The study also focused on other aspects of the role of the university professor. Three aspects were studied: the importance given to outreach within the set of activities carried out by university professors; whether university management expects professors to perform outreach activities, according to the informants’ opinion; and how often professors carry out these tasks. So as to provide some context, a brief historical overview of university outreach is presented, as well as changes in its patterns of actions. Some proposals are presented to improve outreach visibility.
