Sumario:Abstract: Advances in the understanding of neonatal pain have been produced and published in the international literature since the 1980s. Numerous studies have shown that newborns who must be admitted to the different neonatal units will be subjected to various experiences painful from the first days of life. There is a universal consensus, which holds that the management of pain in the neonatal period must be based on the precise identification of the presence of pain, being the first step for its ideal management. To this end, measurement tools are used, universally validated, such as the pain assessment scale of Susan Givens that has behavioral variables and physiological variables, or the CRIES scale, which is a useful instrument to assess postoperative pain. The treatment of the NB with pain includes the prevention of pain, non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures. Objective: To provide a standardization guide for the assessment and care of the newborn with pain treatment, admitted to the Neonatal ICU of a Provincial Hospital ofthe city of Córdoba Capital.
