description This paper presents part of the results obtained from the doctoral thesis carried out in the upper and middle basin of the Quinto River, in the east-central province of San Luis. The objectives were focused on two central aspects, in the first instance, to recognize the supply of lithic resources and to analyze the technological strategies used by local groups in relation to each identified raw material. The research was framed, in a general way, in the theoretical concepts of the Technological Organization and methodologies derived from the Distributional Archeology were applied for the work in the field. The lithic sources and raw materials were characterized by combining geological field and laboratory analysis, and the technomorphological study of the artifacts. It is concluded that in the study area the offer of lithic resources is broader and more varied than expected in the initial moments of the investigation. The exploitation of a variety of local and non-local rocks is also noted through a combination of technological strategies that show the circulation of resources and a wide knowledge of the available rocks by the societies that inhabited the Quinto river basin.

En este trabajo se presentan parte de los resultados obtenidos de la tesis doctoral llevada a cabo en la cuenca alta y media del río Quinto, en el centro-este de la provincia de San Luis. Los objetivos se enfocaron en dos aspectos centrales, en primera instancia, reconocer la oferta de recursos líticos y analizar las estrategias tecnológicas utilizadas por los grupos locales en relación a cada materia prima identificada. La investigación se enmarcó, de modo general, en los conceptos teóricos de la Organización Tecnológica y se aplicaron metodologías derivadas de la Arqueología Distribucional para el trabajo en el terreno. Las fuentes y las materias primas líticas fueron caracterizadas mediante la combinación de análisis geológicos de campo y laboratorio, y el estudio tecnomorfológico de los artefactos. Se concluye que en el área de estudio la oferta de recursos líticos es más amplia y variada de la esperada en los momentos iniciales de la investigación. Se advierte además la explotación de una variedad de rocas locales y no locales mediante una combinación de estrategias tecnológicas que evidencian la circulación de los recursos y un amplio conocimiento de las rocas disponibles por parte de las sociedades que habitaron la cuenca del río Quinto. Este trabalho apresenta parte dos resultados obtidos a partir da tese de doutorado realizada na bacia superior e média do rio Quinto, no centro-leste da província de San Luis. Os objetivos foram focalizados em dois aspectos centrais: primeiro, reconhecer a oferta de recursos líticos e analisar as estratégias tecnológicas utilizadas pelos grupos locais em relação a cada matéria prima identificada. A pesquisa foi enquadrada, em termos gerais, dentro dos conceitos teóricos de Organização Tecnológica e metodologias derivadas da Arqueologia Distributiva foram aplicadas ao trabalho de campo. As fontes e matérias-primas líticas foram caracterizadas através de uma combinação de análise de campo geológico e laboratorial, e o estudo tecnomorfológico dos artefatos. Conclui-se que o fornecimento de recursos líticos na área de estudo é mais amplo e variado do que o esperado no início da pesquisa. A exploração de uma variedade de rochas locais e não locais também é evidente através de uma combinação de estratégias tecnológicas que mostram a circulação de recursos e um amplo conhecimento das rochas disponíveis pelas sociedades que habitavam a bacia do rio Quinto.
