The approach to different archaeological issues through macro and micro botanical remains, profoundly expanded the knowledge about the human groups that inhabited the area. The Archaeobotany and sub-disciplines that integrate it, make possible the analysis from asynchronic and diachronic perspective. Considering the latter, it is interesting to analyze the process through which the transition between extractive and productive economies took place during the period 6000-1100 years BP. Different environmental factors -natural, social and cultural- as well as the geographical characteristics, certainly played a role. Then, the goal is to investigate how the archaeobotanical record shows this process in the area. At the same time, from the investigations carried out and/or in progress, evaluate and re-evaluate the results obtained by analyzing both the theoretical and methodological gaps for the transition time: gathering-incipient agriculture. It is important to raise new questions that lead to the need to seek different theoretical and methodological routes for resolution that simultaneously generate conceptual discussions. En los últimos años diferentes innovaciones metodológicas, técnicas y conceptuales fueron incorporándose en los distintos grupos de trabajo que realizan estudios arqueobotánicos en el área de Antofagasta de la Sierra. El abordaje de diversas problemáticas arqueológicas a través del tratamiento de restos macro y micro-botánicos ha ampliado profundamente el conocimiento sobre los grupos humanos que habitaron el área. La Arqueobotánica y las sub-disciplinas que la integran hacen posible el análisis en perspectiva sincrónica y diacrónica. Considerando esta última, es interesante analizar el proceso a través del cual tuvo lugar la transición entre economías extractivas y productivas durante el lapso 6000–1100 años AP. Diversos factores ambientales -naturales, sociales y culturales- así como también las características geográficas, jugaron sin duda un rol importante. El objetivo es entonces indagar de qué modo el registro arqueobotánico da cuenta de dicho proceso en el área. Al mismo tiempo, a partir de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo y/o en curso, evaluar y re-valorar los resultados obtenidos, analizando a la vez los vacíos teóricos-metodológicos para el momento de transición: recolección - agricultura incipiente. Es importante plantear nuevos interrogantes que conduzcan a la búsqueda de diferentes rutas teórico-metodológicas para su resolución y la generación de nuevas discusiones conceptuales.
