Sumario:A typical "pencil and paper" problem, suitable for the teaching of Physics at secondary leve! is stated. The problem refers to the calculations of power, energy, volume flow, etc., in the functioning of a domestic water heater. The problem is solved, and from the discussion of the outcomes, arguments arise supporting the idea that this kind of problem must be stated si de by si de whith the correspondingexperimental activity. The suitable experimental activity is stated, its development is analized, and sorne technical details are developed. This information is useful for a teacher who wants to transfer the activity to the reality of his classroom.
