| Sumario: | Internet memes are part of today’s everyday life. They are generated on a daily basis and are commonly distributed in different virtual groups on the web. They are a type of image that has a great potential to describe and explain a phenomenon, fact or cultural development, especially among young people. They generate positions and approaches to social issues and problems, while they can be deliberately used by social groups and political forces to promote or question a certain ideology. For all these reasons, its incorporation as a resource and educational strategy is recommended. This paper presents an educational experience in the training of Biology teachers that incorporated Internet memes, in an interdisciplinary work with Visual Communication teachers. Based on seven memes alluding to Biology topics, a survey was conducted to collect data on the emotional impact of the images and on previous knowledge of Biology and Visual Communication associated with their analysis. The results show that the memes generated a positive emotional impact and that the teachers in training were able to associate -in a general way- each meme to biological topics. On this basis, joint instances were then developed between the two teachers to deepen the analysis of the selected memes in biological, visual-communicational, and didactic aspects. |
