In this article we will are going to deal with the objectives of practical works and the goals that can be reached through the analysis of data from an investigation carried out with 4th year students of the secondary school. By means off an oral/ a verbal open questionnaire and a selection card task, we inquire what students think about three aspects connected to the laboratory practical works objectives. First, the goals that teachers set when they prepare practical works. Secondly, the objectives reached with these works. Finally what objectives should be reached with the laboratory experience. The results show that laboratory practical works, carried out by the interviewed students, are useful to "interact with the natural material", "help understanding", "check knowledge", "work with the experience inherent procedures", "motivate and Integrate the student socially", However, students think that they should reach objectives connected to the research, such as, "the formulation research questions and hypothesis", " materials manipulation", "analysis" and "work evaluation ". En este artículo trataremos los objetivos de los trabajos prácticos y los logros que se pueden alcanzar, a través del análisis de datos provenientes de una investigación realizada con alumnos de 4º año de la escuela secundaria. A través de un cuestionario verbal abierto y una tarea de selección de tarjetas, se indagó qué piensan los alumnos sobre tres aspectos vinculados con las finalidades de los trabajos de laboratorio. En primer lugar, qué se proponen los profesores cuando hacen los trabajos prácticos; en segundo lugar, qué objetivos se logran con los trabajos que proponen sus profesores; y, finalmente, qué objetivos se deberían lograr con las experiencias de laboratorio. Los resultados señalan que los trabajos de laboratorio, que realizan los alumnos entrevistados, sirven para “interactuar con el material natural”, “favorecer la comprensión”, “comprobar conocimientos”, “utilizar los procedimientos inherentes a la experiencia”, “motivar” e “integrar socialmente”, Sin embargo, los alumnos piensan que se debería alcanzar objetivos relacionados con la actividad investigativa, tales como, “formular preguntas de investigación e hipótesis”, “diseño de experiencias”, “manipulación de materiales”, “análisis” y “evaluación del trabajo”.
