Sumario:Contents such as cytogenetics and Mendel's first law are commonly dealt with in the teaching of Biological Sciences in basic education. Thus, the present work approached the presentation of practices aiming to promote the students' interest, motivation and interaction for a meaningful learning of Genetics. For this purpose, a diagnostic questionnaire was applied, followed by classes with the assembly of didactic models representative of the DNA molecule, chromosomes and stages of cell division, as well as the simulation of a crossing based on Mendel's first law and karyotype assembly. The results indicate that the methods stimulated work group and allowed the diffusion of knowledge and the assimilation of content. Moreover, students could realize the importance of contextualization for learning biology.
