Juarez, Victor D. Moreno, Carmen C. The teaching of organic chemistry has awoken different opinions in relation to the contents and teaching strategies used by the professor in order to favor the construction of said contents. Theoretical classes, problem solving classes, compulsory laboratory work and a final practical task about a topic related to the students´ interest were implemented in order to relate the knowledge of Organic Chemistry with the knowledge of Biology. This class modality favored the students´ academic performance, which in show in increase of retention. Seven teaching hours a week every four month is suggested for the development of classes.
