Sumario:The teaching of topics related to public health in economically disadvantaged areassometimes goes beyond the school walls. Questioning this issue contributes to the social role in the formation of small multipliers that can change the local reality. The subjects of this article were child education teachers from a public school (Municipal Center for Child Education) located next to a slum with the aim of intervening in this context. We sought to know the main diseases identified by the teachers, creating a space for training and developing teaching material. The activities lasted 20 months and data were collected by using questionnaires, interviews and observation. 6 books were produced by the teachers. We observed that their autonomy grew and their intervention actions were expanded as their experience spread to other public schools.
