The didactically sequence was guided on the issue: “why do ants walk in a row?’’. The students who participate issued hypothesis and took part of several didactical strategies to solve the problem. Analyzing the results, it was noticed that, despite some difficulty, the investigative approach is a dynamic and significant knowledge builder efficient tool. O presente trabalho foi realizado com alunos da educação básica no Brasil mediante o acompanhamento sistemático do desenvolvimento de uma sequência didática na perspectiva do ensino por investigação. A sequência didática foi pautada no seguinte problema “Porque as formigas andam em fila?”. Os alunos participantes emitiram hipóteses e participaram de várias estratégias didáticas para solucionar o referido problema. Na análise dos resultados evidenciou-se que apesar de algumas dificuldades, o enfoque investigativo é uma ferramenta efetiva na construção do conhecimento de forma dinâmica e significativa.
