Situación actual Marco, Barberá Borrás, Sanchis Mocholí, Cristina Sendra This article surveys the current situation of the biological evolution theory in the Spanish educational system, by examining 44 secondary level biology textbooks. Usually, the treatment received by the evolutionary theory does not correspond at all with its seminal importance in several domains of knowledge. The approach used to explain biological evolution in textbooks is quite diverse. Most cases showed important deficiencies. A drastic improvement is needed; especially in broadening the range of key evolutionary concepts included, as well as in addressing them in a more accurate way capable to describe their relationships and their role in shaping evolutionary thought.
