Modernity has separated religious doctrines from traditionsand this separation brought about a dilemma for non-westernstates since they were deprived of their religion when faced with thetask of building their own identity which had in turn been deeply rootedin religion. The process of secularization, i.e. separation of the conceptsof the political community from those of the religious community,has caused an important fracture within the societies that came lastto adhere to the modernizing process that has been imposed -directlyor indirectly- by Europe since the XVI century.
