Apart from the archaeological findings, there is a frequent presence of themotif that has been identified as “trophy head” in various objects. In this work we will concentrate on the analysis of a corpus ofNasca and Moche modeled and polychrome ceramic that belongs to the Ethnographic Museum “Juan B. Ambrosetti” (Facultad deFilosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires) and the “Larco” Museum (Lima, Perú). Through the archaeological informationand the iconographic analysis, we will investigate the role that the images of anthropomorphic heads played as active agents in theconfiguration of cosmologies and cosmogonies in relation to social behaviors connected to death, sacrifice, fertility and the renewal of the life cycle. Las prácticas de la decapitación y el tratamiento post mortem de la cabeza del sacrificado están abundantemente documentadasen la arqueología andina, sobre todo, en la costa sur peruana. A los hallazgos arqueológicos se suma la frecuente presencia del motivo identificado como “cabeza trofeo” en diversos objetos. En este trabajo nos concentraremos en el análisis de un corpus de cerámica modelada y policromada nasca y moche que forma parte de los acervos de los museos Etnográfico “Juan B. Ambrosetti” (Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires) y Larco (Lima, Perú). A través de la información arqueológica y del análisis iconográfico, indagaremos los posibles roles que cumplieron las imágenes de cabezas antropomorfas como agentes activos en la configuración de cosmologías y cosmogonías en relación con comportamientos sociales vinculados con la muerte, el sacrificio, la fertilidad y la renovación del ciclo vital.
