The reconstruction and classification of the traditional dances required the examination of numerous visual sources (particularly the work of the traveling and costumbristas painters of the XIX century) allowing a considerable field of work for several artists, among them, Aurora de Pietro. These images transcended the visual and printed culture and gained their own place in the halls of the Salón Nacional de Bellas Artes. Este artículo indaga los vínculos entre la obra de algunos artistas y los estudios folclóricos en Argentina que comenzaron a experimentar una importante expansión promediando la década del treinta. La reconstrucción y clasificación de las danzas tradicionales requirió el examen de numerosas fuentes visuales (particularmente la obra de los pintores viajeros y costumbristas del siglo XIX), lo cual abrió un campo de trabajo considerable para varios artistas, entre ellos Aurora de Pietro. Estas imágenes trascendieron el mundo de la cultura visual e impresa, ganaron lugar en las vidrieras del “gran arte”, y llegaron a participar en las instancias de los Salones Nacionales de Bellas Artes.
