El artículo analiza el proceso de reclutamiento y educación de una tradicional burocracia del Estado nacional argentino: los oficiales del Ejército. Teniendo como objeto a los oficiales de una Promoción del Colegio Militar de la Nación que estudió en ese instituto entre 1979 y 1982, caracteriza los perfiles sociales de los cadetes y sus familias de origen, determina los motivos por los cuales eligieron ser militares y comprende su formación como oficiales en esos años.
