Sumario:The initial trajectory of the Police Department of Mendoza is analysed so as to present how it was built as a differentiated division inside the governmental organigram despite the multiple tasks it addressed, which included sanitary and adornment issues as well as logistics tasks, or safety and control. The hypothesis claims that, on one hand, the police would not have been limited by its object of action nor by its space of material intervention but by the type of proceeding deployed and the discourse that legitimated its daily deployment. On the other hand, it considers that not only the executive branch strengthened its action capacity through the friction with the other two branches in configuration, assuming legislative or judicial functions temporally or regularly, but it consolidated its own scope of action in which the Chief Constable and the police headquarters became crucial gears given their direct dependency on him and his own executive nature.
