| Sumario: | The purpose of this paper is to examine the ways in which the patriotic cult of Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín experienced a renewed impulse during the centenary of the battle of Ayacucho celebrated in Peru in December 1924. To this end, special attention is paid to the uses of the independence past deployed by various politicians, militaries and intellectuals, mainly of Argentine and Venezuelan origin, who took advantage of the occasion to try to give each of these heroes and their nations a prominent place during the celebrations. |
