| Sumario: | In this work we propose to make some considerations about the representations that, between the 18th and 19th centuries, different colonizing agents had on the eastern border of the Salta del Tucumán Municipality, highlighting the importance given to Bermejo. Our intention is to show how the combination of supposed mineral wealth, the agricultural potential derived from the numerous sources of water that ran through the region and its privileged geographical location, since it was located in a territory located between Paraguay, Upper Peru, the Rio de la Plata and Tucumán, were the main incentives for the jujeños to consider their conquest. We have consulted part of the documentation available in the Government Fund of the Historical Archive of Salta, the material digitized by the National Library of Brazil that is open to consultations on the website https://www.bn.gov.br and different testimonies bequeathed to us by some of the protagonists of the conquest, among which are the Jesuit fathers who administered several reductions in the region and left excellent descriptions of the practices of the indigenous people, as well as some agents of the colonial and republican government interested in open the Bermejo to river navigation |
