| Sumario: | This article intends to focus on the internal political debate at the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) in the years following the 1930 coup. The object of this reserarch will be, in particular, the political culture of the party, understood both as a political organization (the maquina) both in its ideological-political aspects (the doctrina). The essay focuses on the period between 1930 and 1935. A momentum characterized by an initial loss of the UCR followed by the decision to abstain from all electoral competitions. Abstention was accompanied by the emergence of revolutionary episodes inspired and leaded by radical leaders. Beyond the abstention and revolutionary actions, the radical party was slowly abandoning the self-representation as the "party of the nation"; indeed, the idea that the UCR was a party interpreting only one part of society was taking shape. This revealed, on closer inspection, a profound change in the horizons of political culture to which the party was inspired. |
