Sumario:This article is on the subject of the origin and function of Hispanic cartularies, also known as "tumbos", becerros" (calfskin bindings), and diplomatics codices among others. The types of surviving cartularies are studied, especially their origin and causes of production. An explanation of the preservation of documentary texts chosen in them is tried to be given. Likewise, their internal structure is dealt with.
