We will analise the gradual loss of the coercive functions of the court of peace with the creation of the police station in Tandil in 1872, being the main commercial and service centre of the south of the Province of Buenos Aires. We will study not only the police crade with its functions and relation to the rest of the powers; but also its relation to the society which had called for its creation. Recovering these social actors as active individuals, we will see the participation they had in this process, how they experienced the topic of safety in a border society and their relation to the state. In this way, we will be able to incorporate the points of consensus with the civil society, together with vigilance and punishment. La mayoría de los estudios sobre la justicia de paz se han centrado en la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Sin embargo, la segunda mitad del siglo, época de descentralización del juzgado de paz, no ha merecido la misma atención. Analizaremos la gradual pérdida de las funciones coercitivas del juzgado de paz al crearse la comisaría de policía en 1872 en Tandil, principal centro comercial y de servicios del sur de la provincia de Buenos Aires. No sólo estudiaremos al plantel policial, sus funciones y su relación con los demás poderes, sino también su relación con la sociedad, a cuyas demandas respondió su creación. Recuperando a estos actores sociales como sujetos activos veremos la participación que tuvieron en este proceso, cómo vivenciaron el tema de la inseguridad en una sociedad de frontera y la relación que tuvieron con el Estado. De esta manera, podremos incorporar junto con la vigilancia y el castigo, los puntos de consenso con la sociedad civil. Centro de Estudios Históricos Profesor Carlos S. A.
