Sumario:The commemoration of the Bicentenary in Latin America is a propitious occasion to reflect on the diversity of issues related to the history of the states that constitute it. In this article (referred to Uruguay) we will: a) Examine, from the perspective of history of historiography, the process of setting classic nationalist imaginary; b) investigate the causes of problematization and the crisis of its contents (mainly in its core notions of independence, collective identity and repertoire-foundational mythemes from 1960 and displayed under the “Year of the Bicentennial Celebration of the Oriental Emancipation Process”); c) explore the reasons for the delayed development of alternative and prospective imaginary consensus, both from the social sciences and the political system.
