It focuses mainly on those policies related to quantitative and qualitative reproduction. The notion of a desirable population for an integrated national community operates as a framework to pressure the state, to debate about the most convenient regulations and its is the one that the specialists invoke to define public policy. The specific goal of this article is to analyze the ideas, actors and institutions present in this debate. The article focuses on those actors who are concerned about the role of the state on the quantitative and qualitative growth of the population, and on its healthy survival. Este trabajo indaga acerca del impacto de la ideología poblacionista en el proceso de construcción de las políticas sociales durante el período de entreguerras, fundamentalmente aquellas ligadas a la reproducción cuantitativa y cualitativa del factor demográfico. Las ideas en torno a la población deseable para una comunidad nacional integrada operan como marco en el que se presiona al Estado, se desarrollan los debates acerca de las normativas más convenientes y se proveen los especialistas que intentan organizar y llevar a la práctica las políticas resultantes. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar las distintas tramas discursivas que intervienen en esta discusión a fin de esclarecer las ideas, los actores y las instituciones que participan en él. El recorte está dado por aquellas voces que tienen como eje la preocupación por el crecimiento cuantitativo y cualitativo de la población y su integración social a través de la garantía de su supervivencia saludable y por cómo visualizan la intervención del Estado en este propósito.
