On one hand, we outline the structural limitations that weight on the labour of the corregidores to give response to the orders issued by the monarchs and to make effective many of the judgments that these officials produce. On the other hand, we consider their interventions in different conflictive stages during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, such as the ilegal apropiation of communal lands; and the many conflicts produced locally through the very same action of the corregidores. A partir de documentación local del Concejo de Ávila, se analizan las intervenciones de los corregidores, con el objetivo de revisar la caracterización clásica que se ha hecho de estos oficiales como instrumentos eficaces de la centralización monárquica. Se examinan las limitaciones estructurales que pesan sobre el corregimiento para dar respuesta a las órdenes emitidas por los monarcas y para efectivizar muchas de las sentencias que sus oficiales producen. Para ello, se considera la modalidad de sus intervenciones en los litigios por apropiación de términos comunales, que adquieren particular relevancia en el período; y en la conflictividad que la propia actuación de los corregidores genera en el ámbito local.
