| Sumario: | Based upon Descriptive Translation Studies (Toury, 1995), and following the principles of the Sociology of Translation (Casanova, 2002; Sapiro, 2010), this article presents the first results of a study carried out within the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación (Universidad de la República) Master’s Degree. The aim is to study the representations of language (Boyer, 1990) in the translated text —from a sociolinguistic approach— that might have led to follow certain norms in translation (Toury, 1995). The novel is La mesera era nueva [La serveuse était nouvelle, translated into English as The Waitress Was New] by Dominique Fabre, translated from French to Spanish by Laura Masello in 2006 by a Uruguayan publishing house, in cooperation with an Argentinian and a Chilean publishing house. The Spanish dialect will be studied from a lexical point of view, emphasising the main difficulties found when analysing the lexical items gathered. Since Spanish is a language of pluricentric standardisation, and given the outline of the institutions that regulate Spanish, some standard varieties from Latin America may be presented in the different lexicographic resources. |
