Sumario:The translation of literary texts in Argentina, which enjoyed of a golden time during the 40’s and 50’s, was seriously affected by the coup of 1976 and the ending of Francoist period. In Argentina, publishing houses were forced to abandon the country while in Spain the advent of democracy promoted the strengthening of current publishing conglomerates, from where most of the translations that circulate in the Spanish-speaking world come from, translations produced in «neutral Spanish». Taking into account the categories proposed by Lila Petrella (1998) and David Sundell (2010), it was carried out a descriptive and contrastive analysis of three versions of El Mago de Oz, by L. Frank Baum, a Spanish version and two Argentinean versions. The analysis, done under the basis of the Polysystem Theory, proposed by Etamar Even Zohar (1999), and according to the concepts of norm and acceptability presented by Guideon Toury (2004), made it possible to identify some of the characteristics of «neutral Spanish from Southern Cone» and the translation procedures involved in its production, as well as the detection of particular norms that constrained the production of the Argentinean versions.
