The mass media convey icons, symbols, "superpersonalities" evidencing the complex lines that cross those interrelations. Such processes are investigated here to think about contemporary Uruguay in a globalizing world, through one of the most easily recognizable Uruguayans outside the country: Natalia Oreiro. References to "being Uruguayan" emerge in the construction of its public image, allowing to explore the attributes put into play for such identifications, while also the reception around its figure makes it possible to inquire about cultural consumption and country image for the referred South American state. En tiempos de globalización, lo nacional se desdibuja a la vez que pugna por reafirmarse ante ágiles flujos de información, bienes y personas. Los medios de masas vehiculan íconos, símbolos, “superpersonalidades” evidenciando los complejos trazos que atraviesan aquella interrelación. Tales procesos son aquí indagados para pensar el Uruguay contemporáneo en un mundo globalizante, a través de una de las uruguayas más fácilmente reconocibles fuera de fronteras: Natalia Oreiro.
