| Sumario: | In times of globalization, the national is blurred at the same time as it struggles to reaffirm itself in the face of agile flows of information, goods and people. The mass media convey icons, symbols, "superpersonalities" evidencing the complex lines that cross those interrelations. Such processes are investigated here to think about contemporary Uruguay in a globalizing world, through one of the most easily recognizable Uruguayans outside the country: Natalia Oreiro. References to "being Uruguayan" emerge in the construction of its public image, allowing to explore the attributes put into play for such identifications, while also the reception around its figure makes it possible to inquire about cultural consumption and country image for the referred South American state. |
