Sumario:In order to consolidate a Latin American literate culture, during the 20th century it became indispensable the appearance of publishing houses, whose publications propitiated communities of readers in different parts of the continent. However, the simple impression of books would not have an important transcendence without the publisher's work, who points out the objective towards where the production, circulation and consumption of the printed matter is directed. A paradigmatic example of this work was the Argentinean publisher Arnaldo Orfila Reynal, who directed the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE) and later founded the Siglo XXI publishing house, whose trajectory is reconstructed in the book "Editar desde la izquierda en América Latina" by Gustavo Sorá.
