Sumario:In this article we present some hypotheses aimed at discussing the heuristic validity of the category of totalitarianism to define the Soviet political regime from its beginning to its conclusion. To do this, we propose a crossing of perspectives and paradigms. On the one hand, the historiography that questions the category, since it hides rather than reveals the dissimilar springs of Soviet life; on the other we will stop at the Arendtian figure of the detotalization of the Soviet Union after the death of Stalin. The crossing will allow us to explore the scope of the totalitarianism category and the drifts of detotalization, according to the suggestive hypothesis raised by Arendt.
