If amorevolezza, as a distinctive feature of the culture of care in the congregation, was intended to signify the love, benevolence, affection, gentleness and patience that the assistant should have towards the assisted person, the documentation shows that hidden forms of abuse and violence were also part of the daily life experienced by their students. A partir de información proporcionada por un conjunto de fuentes epistolares halladas en los archivos de la congregación salesiana -que confrontan y, en ocasiones, desmienten los relatos institucionales-, el siguiente trabajo intenta construir una visión más compleja de las experiencias atravesadas por los niños y jóvenes hacia el interior de los internados salesianos en la Argentina, durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Si la amorevolezza, como rasgo distintivo de la cultura asistencial de la congregación, pretendía significar el amor, la benevolencia, el afecto, la dulzura y la paciencia que el asistente debía tener para con el asistido, la documentación muestra que formas soterradas de abuso y violencia formaron parte, también, de la vida cotidiana experimentada por sus alumnos.
