This  exercise attempts to analyze the composition of the historical documents about female institutions that  protected women. And it seeks to understand nature, limits and scopes of those sources. The main intention  is to study the spaces that sheltered women in New Galicia, and to rescue their institutionalized tracks.  This implies addressing social and cultural history of these women. In doing so, it is necessary to consider  the status and the trajectory of the Historical Archive of the Archbishopric of Guadalajara; so, we could  organize the document types and ponder the historiographical state of research problems, such as the life  inside convents, colleges, beaterios and recogimientos of the New Galicia. El objetivo de este texto es dar a conocer un conjunto de fuentes primarias de orden eclesiástico en el periodo del  Antiguo Régimen novohispano, de manera puntual en Guadalajara, la capital de la Nueva Galicia. El ejercicio  busca analizar la composición del material documental que se resguarda sobre las instituciones femeninas de  aquella época y comprender su naturaleza, límites y alcances. Esto tiene el propósito de incentivar el estudio de  aquellos espacios que albergaron a las novogalaicas y rescatar de entre las huellas institucionalizadas las pistas y  claves para abordar una historia social y cultural de esas mujeres. En este sentido, las siguientes líneas tienen dos  aristas, ya que por una parte es preciso considerar el estado y trayectoria del Archivo Histórico del Arzobispado de Guadalajara para después aterrizar en los tipos documentales que se pueden encontrar en él y valorar el estado  historiográfico de algunos problemas de investigación, como la vida al interior de los conventos, colegios, beaterios  y recogimientos de la Nueva Galicia.
