Dos parroquias de la región conocida como Los Altos de Jalisco, en los límites entre los antiguos obispados de Guadalajara y Michoacán, reinos de Nueva Galicia y Nueva España, respectivamente, conservan los libros de bautismos desde el siglo XVIII. En este trabajo se busca responder dos preguntas ¿qué utilidad tiene este tipo de fuentes eclesiásticas para la historia social más allá de permitir conocer los montos anuales y seculares de los bautizados?
