Sumario:This article aims to present José Maria Machado de Assis’s perspectives about 19th Century Brazilian Slave Owner’s property comprehension, as well as about how that group used to relate with the land. We intend to do it, analyzing two administrative procedures of property request from Espirito Santo, a Brazilian province. Machado de Assis worked at the Agriculture ministry and wrote on those files. We also will consider two literary texts from this man of letters.
