Sumario:From the second half of the decade of 1990, there join the geographical information systems (SIG) to the archaeological tasks developed in the Center of Investigations Ruins of San Francisco, City of Mendoza. In the minutes of the First National Congress of Historical Archaeology of the year 2000 was published an article that presents the general limits that were constituting the SIG for the Historical Urban Archaeology of Mendoza. Since then diverse advances have been realized in the application of the SIG, managingto extend and to deepen the use of these tools. In this work a revision is realized where there is analyzed the application started to the SIG in Historical Archaeology. The aims and users are considered two key periods, the original design of a geographical information system applied to the tasks of archaeological investigation. In the second period a reorientation is recognized in the aims and uses of the system, extending to the current uses and to future.
