Sumario:This paper presents data demonstrating the existence of technical styles of pottery production among the village societies that inhabited the Southern Calchaquíes valleys (Northwestern Argentina) from the first to the fifth century AD. The ceramic materials under discussion were obtained in excavations at the archaeological sites of Cardonal (southern Cajón Valley); Ingenio del Arenal-Faldas del Cerro and Antigal de Tesoro (western slope of the Aconquija Sierra); and the Chimpa component of the site Bañado Viejo (Santa Maria river alluvial plain). Ceramics were characterized through petrographic analytical techniques in order to identify manufacturing patterns. The identified regularities reveal the presence of a regional savoir faire in the crafting of the analyzed pottery.
