Sumario:We characterize the largest bedrock grinding structure of the archaeological locality El Chiflón - Punta de la Greda (center – south region of La Rioja province). The grinding structure consists of 128 mortars dispersed in eight contiguous flat sandstone blocks, close to the Pucará El Chiflón. The analysis of technical and morphological variables indicates a certain homogeneity in their metric characteristics. In turn, the average depths, the proximity of potentially exploitable wild species, and the absence to date of evidence associated with cultivation, denote communal processing of wild resources (mainly chañar and carob) as the most likely use of the structure. Regarding chronological aspects, although we propose a sequential generation and use of the cavities, most of them could have participated relatively contemporaneously with the activity of the Pucará El Chiflón and nearby settlements, during the Middle Period and its transition to the Late Period.
