Sumario:We present the first results of the ongoing research in Timón Cruz, in the Puna of Jujuy, focusing on the evidence of human installation in the area which would have been related to gold mining. The tasks performed to date include prospections, superficial recollections, general record of the architecture, preliminary analysis of collected material and study of written records. Historical data allow us to state that the history of this locality is marked by the mining development of the region. Archaeologically, we were able to register disperse or concentrated architecture, with constructive attributes and associated portable elements, that allow us to relate them to colonial occupations, alongside evidence of gold mining and processing, scattered in the landscape or concentrated in the settlement of Timón Cruz. Certain constructive characteristics and of the associated material allow us to consider them as part of an early colonial occupation, different from other post-hispanic contact settlements of the Puna region, which were occupied intensely since the 18th century.
