| Sumario: | The process of identification of unknown-identity human remains by means of feature aggregation methods is aimed at obtaining the identity of persons whose distinctive characteristics have been altered or whose body has undergone transformations (Bruckner Borrero 2005). The state of decomposition and the cause and circumstances of death will determine which method to use for positive identification. The palatal rugae possess characteristics that make them a diagnostic morphological feature apt for this purpose. No protocols for the study and analysis of palatal rugae have been developed in Latin America in general or in Argentina in particular. This work presents a new analytical-descriptive method that results from the synthesis of diverse methods used worldwide and the description of new patterns. We provide a registration form that unifies, expedites and streamlines data registration, including more stomatologic variables and allowing an integrative analysis of the palatal region (except for the teeth). |
