Sumario:The objective of this paper is evaluating subadult presence on the bioarchaeological record, in order to analyze the demographic profile of skeletal samples from Quebrada de Humahuaca (Jujuy, Argentina) during the Regional Development period (AD 900-1430). For this purpose, skeletal remains from 283 individuals both from museum collections recovered in the beginning of the 20th century (sample 1, n = 206), and from excavations conducted in the last 30 years (sample 2, n = 77) were studied. Results showed a significant subadult subrepresentation in collections from the early 20th century. Clear differences were seen in Los Amarillos site, which was excavated in both instances, and presented important discrepancies on its age distribution. Based on these results it was concluded that the observed differences in age profiles could be related to excavation and collection methodologies employed on each timeframe. This warns about the importance of acknowledging during the investigation design process, the possible bias created by postdepositional elements, including excavation and sampling techniques.
