Sumario:The aim of this paper is to carry out a critical revision of previous research studies in which vertebral maturation is analyzed as a method of age estimation. The purpose is to present the state of the art of different aspects and techniques of measurement and recording of cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae maturation and to evaluate its usefulness, reliability and precision for age estimation of skeletons of adolescents and young adults. We conclude that this method makes it possible to reduce the size of the age ranges when used in conjunction with other indicators, thus allowing a positive estimate of skeletal age.
