Sumario:The goal of this paper is to present the outreach activities carried out in four schools of Puerta de San José (Belén, Catamarca), based on the shared experience in the field trip of the course Arqueología Americana II in 2017. These activities aim to promote the appreciation and preservation of local archaeological heritage. To that end, talks and activities were held with the students and teachers of the schools about the archaeological work in the region, and some key notions and terms were discussed. Different degrees of knowledge about archaeological heritage were identified, which we link with the emphasis given to the issue in the different schools. As a result, children and teachers associated the concepts discussed with the archaeological sites and objects of their own places. Finally, we highlight the important role of outreach activities in archaeology, along with research and teaching, for a participatory construction of the past.
