Sumario:The aim of this paper is to investigate the argumentative strategies in “La Civilización Chaco Santiagueña y sus correlaciones con las del Viejo y Nuevo Mundo” (Tomo 1) (1934) used by Emilio Roger y Duncan Ladislao Wagner in order to support the existence of an old civilization in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. The analysis is based upon the discussion of certain themes suggested by the text reading and the impact that this one produced on the scientific and social context. The controversy between the Wagner and the archaeologists from the Argentine Society of Anthropology as a visible symptom of the development of Archaeology as a science is also analyzed.
