Sumario:We aim to investigate the archaeological site “Los Cardones”, from the use of space point of view. This pre-hispanic remains are situated on a marrow pass on the edge of the wide Valley of Yocavil (Province of Tucumán). The site is generally known as “Pukara de Los Cardones”, due to its strategic and possibly defensive conditions, it is one of the more eastern situated fields of the valley in relation to other similar structures by its architectural and cultural characteristics. The preliminary surveys and prospections of the archaeological site and bordering area were carried out during september and october 1995. As a result a project of investigation was prepared and fulfilled in different site work campaigns during january-february months 1996-1999 and march month 2000-2004. The works in the site basically consisted of a) Plano-altimetric surveys of three sections, defined within the universe of architectonic buildings of the site; b) Undiscriminated superficial collections of material in different surveyed sections; c) Excavation and sounding of various places, and in special of an architectonic structure which due to its peculiar features of conformation and location had not been considered in the regional bibliography and could give relevant information about its functionality.
